The Spark – How It All Began

Hi, I’m Tomoya Iwama — I used to work in Japan’s high-end watch & jewelry industry.
Every single day, I watched mountains of absolutely stunning gemstones get pushed aside.
Not because they were damaged — but simply because their color was a little too soft, their shape a little too free, or their texture a little too honest.
To the industry, they were “rejects.”
To me, they were more captivating than any perfectly polished stone I’d ever seen.
That’s when wabi-sabi hit me square in the heart:
True beauty isn’t flawless.
True beauty is one-of-a-kind, unrepeatable, and deeply human.
I couldn’t let those stones disappear forever.
So I left my job, started rescuing every gem I could get my hands on, and in 2021 I founded Wabi-Sabi Gems — to put that feeling of gentle, imperfect joy into as many hands as possible.
